From October 15 of 1948 until January 8 of 2013, this world was graced with the presence of Lynn Parsons Harper.  There is no way that I could begin to recount all of the wonderful and loving ways in which she touched the lives of others. And that is not the purpose of this short memorial tribute to her.
But for over  30 years, she dedicated herself to helping sick and suffering children, through her work at the local Children's Hospital, working as a Medical Technologist. Throughout her adult life, she continually increased her knowledge of the latest and best procedures, and at one time managed to not only maintain her full time job at the hospital but also to obtain her degree from the University of Alabama, making the Dean's List twice.
Although her compassion and extreme skill and competence,  combined with an often subtle sense of humor and quick wit, were well known by those with whom she worked, in her 'private life' she was equally giving and caring. She gave exceptional care to her own parents and to mine, in their final years, improving their quality of life and providing them with as much cheer and laughter as with medical help; ever generous, she donated some of her free time to working at a local homeless shelter at least one weekend per month, while her health permitted.

She never saw a person in need without making whatever effort was required to improve their situation; and while cooking was one of her greatest joys in life ( and everyone who tasted her cooking praised it in the extreme! ) she seldom cooked only for herself or for the two of us, but almost always made portions large enough to share with other family, friends, and co-workers.
If I could sum up her essence it would be the very best blend of love, kindness and generosity. The world will be a bit darker without her light. But all things are passing, even my time of being apart from her.
